 The Guild Student Assist Officer (Welfare) is available to assist students with welfare related issues, such as Financial Difficulties, Tax Help, Centrelink, Tenancy Advice, Legal Referral, Finding/Advertising Employment and Off Campus Accomodation. 

Financial

Book Subsidy Scheme (BSS)

The Guild Book Subsidy Scheme grants $200 vouchers to financially struggling students each semester to assist them to buy course materials such as textbooks. The closing date for applications is usually in 'O' week so make sure to apply on time. Further information and the application form can be found at www.the-guild.com.au/BSS
 
Food Bank

The Food Bank has emergency food packages and some frozen meals available for any struggling students. The service is confidential and discreet. Tax Help

Every year from the beginning of Semester 2 until the end of October, free Tax Help is available to low income students and staff. To be eligible, you must earn less than $50,000, need help with your current year tax return only, and have an uncomplicated return.  Student and community volunteers, who are trained and accredited by the Australian Taxation Office, will assist you. Centrelink

The Guild Education & Welfare Officer provides advocacy and information about student payments including eligibility, study load requirements, independence test, income and assets tests, payment rates, and additional benefits.The fastest way to claim Austudy or Youth Allowance is to register for online services at www.centrelink.gov.au.If your circumstances change, remember to keep Centrelink in the loop or you could accumulate a Centrelink debt.For more information, contact Youth and Student Services 13 24 90. Remember to record the name and receipt number of Centrelink staff and exactly what they told you after every conversation, so that you can lodge a compliant in case of any issues!
